Nutritional Therapy

What is Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional therapy uses current biochemical and physiological scientific knowledge for the purpose of promoting optimal health and wellbeing whilst recognising biochemical individuality. The nutritional therapist assesses a person's nutritional needs to achieve normal physiological function and reach a position of wellbeing we all seek, but many fail to achieve.

Why use Nutritional Therapy?

Nutrition and lifestyle approaches to healthcare have been repeatedly shown to support the health of all the major systems of the body (skeletal, muscular, nervous, respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, excretory, endocrine, immune, reproductive and skin, nail and hair health). Typical priorities in nutritional therapy consultations are to achieve optimum energy levels, healthy blood‐sugar balance, emotional and psychological wellbeing, optimum gastrointestinal health and tolerance to a broad range of food groups.

Assessment includes the use of appropriate tests and observations, such as case history, anthropomorphic measurements, physical signs, laboratory tests, and nutrition/lifestyle analysis to determine a personalised nutrition programme.

In the face of ever increasing demands on our time and resources, both mental and physical, we all need sufficient energy to get through the day. Even with what may be considered 'adequate' nutritional intake, energy demands may exceed energy input and stores, especially in the presence of emotional, social, or physical stressors. The result is often fatigue, characterised by a diminished capacity for work and reduced efficiency of accomplishment, alongside feelings of weariness, sleepiness or irritability.
